Walker Art Center, Minneapolis’s renowned contemporary art museum, was launching Idea House 3: an unprecedented retail experience featuring collectible design from innovative local makers.
Walker needed help writing product descriptions for their featured wares. These descriptions needed to address the process and methodology of the makers first, as well as the story of the piece, all in Walker’s enigmatic yet unpretentious voice.
ANAMNESIS: 22
Mitch Iburg
“Created from minimally processed clays foraged throughout Minnesota, Anamnesis: 22 from Mitch Iburg evokes landscapes, rock formations, and natural phenomena experienced in the past. Iburg produced this one-of-a-kind, handmade ceramic sculpture using coil-building techniques and finished it with layers of sandy, glacial clay and a wood ash glaze. It is a custom piece for Idea House 3.”
ROOMMATE FLOOR LAMP
Ayako Aratani
“Featuring hand-bent and assembled steel loops, Detroit-based designer Ayako Aratani’s Roommate Lamp was designed to incorporate spirited character to domestic environments. Sculpturally whimsical, the irregular connected loops mimic the organic shapes found in trees, clouds, and bubbles. This lamp will illuminate your space with creativity and warmth.”
LAWLESS SIDE CHAIR
van Fay
“Drawing on principles of architecture and ergonomics, Detroit-based Evan Fay’s Lawless Seating Series features a grid of steel pipes with brass connections interwoven with upholstered foam tubes. The Lawless Side Chair leans into a punk aesthetic to celebrate beauty in chaos and how poetic irregularity in design can be a force to disrupt tired systems. The result is as comfortable as it is striking.”
